Sri Lanka releases 2,961 prisoners

Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka's president, says he has released 2,961 inmates in the past two weeks as part of an effort to reduce congestion in prisons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those released include people who had served a major portion of their sentences or were being held in remand for minor offences and had been unable to pay bail, he said in a post on Twitter.

Based on recommendations by expert committee comprising reps from BASL, Min of Justice & Prisons Dept, 2961 prisoners who were in remand for minor offenses & unable to pay bail or had served major portion of their sentence, were released with conditions, over the past 2 weeks

                  INTRODUCTION In the history of syntax, prepositions alongside other parts of speech are considered as one of the esteemed contributions of the sophists (the itinerant teachers) to the development of the human language. Etymologically, the term “preposition” belonged to the group of word class Aristotle, the founder, referred to as “syndesmoi”. Others in this group are conjunction , article and pronoun . They were thus grouped by Aristotle because they were found to be performing related functions that are summed up in binding terms and exposing the gaps amidst sentences when they are not included. As a plural term, “syndesmoi” is a collective noun that stands for the group while, conjunction , the part of speech that binds together the discourse and finds gaps in its interpretation was called “syndesmos” (see Robins, 1968). Tulsi Gabbard on Tuesday said she doesn't support the move because it would be "terribly divisive" for an "already very divided" United States. "Look, my position remains the same.
