Arizona lawmakers are seeking an independent audit of the Dominion software and equipment used in the general election.

Senate President Karen Fann and House Speaker Rusty Bowers, both Republicans, formally asked for the review on Friday, reports Breitbart

The two leaders, along with Senate Government Chair Michelle Ugenti-Rita and House Majority Leader Warren Petersen spoke several times with members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, according to a press release.

Ugenti-Rita said in a statement that as a longtime advocate for "improving and modernizing our election system" she was pleased to learn that the Maricopa County board supports the audit of its software and equipment.

"(It is) 'important we maintain all of the voting public’s confidence in our elections and this is a positive first step in the right direction," she said.

Peterson added that a "significant number of voters" think fraud occurred and since there was a "number of irregularities" it's easy to understand why.

"Especially concerning are the allegations made surrounding the vendor Dominion," said Peterson. "It is imperative that the County immediately do a forensic audit on the Dominion software and equipment to make sure the results were accurate.

Trump thanked Fann and Bowers on Twitter Friday night for their efforts, claiming that a "fast check of signatures will easily give us the state. Votes against have been reduced to a very small number!"

Arizona leaders certified the election last week for Joe Biden, saying he was ahead of Trump by 10,457 votes.

Bowers on Friday, however, released another statement about the Trump campaign's calls for the legislature to overturn the certification saying the Trump campaign has "presented only theories, not proof" of voter fraud in the state, and even with evidence, "the Arizona Legislature simply could not do what is being asked."

"As a conservative Republican, I don’t like the results of the presidential election," he added. "I voted for President Trump and worked hard to reelect him. But I cannot and will not entertain a suggestion that we violate current law to change the outcome of a certified election."
