The House has passed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill. The lower chamber approved the Senate’s revised version of the bill in a 220-to-211 vote Wednesday. Maine Democrat Jared Golden sided with the Republicans.

The bill is now headed to Joe Biden’s desk to be signed. The IRS estimates stimulus checks could start to be distributed as soon as next week.

The bill provides bailouts to local governments and states, which have been sharply criticized by Republicans. The GOP has said the stimulus bill is full of Democrat “wish list items” and the majority of the spending is not focused on COVID relief.

Nonetheless, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has touted the benefits of the so-called American Rescue Plan. She has argued it would “do many great things” for American families.

“If you are a caregiver, whether for a child or a senior or whatever, you will, childcare is substantially supported in this legislation,” Pelosi stated. “If you are a teacher, schools will be able to be open more safely with an increased funding to do so with ventilation, separation and the rest to have our children return safely and our teachers as well.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy held nothing back as he doubled down on his criticisms of the massive relief bill. While speaking on the floor Wednesday, he condemned Democrats for the liberal wish list that did not meet the needs of everyday Americans.

The California Republican took aim at the measure for prioritizing the wrong things. He went on to say the package would benefit members of the swamp, but not Americans.

“This isn’t a rescue bill, it isn’t a relief bill…it’s a laundry list of left wing priorities that predate the pandemic that do not meet the needs of the American families,” he stated. “No wonder even House Democrats have said they are embarrassed by what is in it.”

This comes as McCarthy has continuously called out the non-virus related items in the bill while urging Democrats to stop calling it COVID relief .
