Andrew Giuliani (R), son of the former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani (R), has announced he will be running for governor of New York in 2022.

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Giuliani said he wants to make New York the economic center of the world again, following his criticism of the state’s current Democrat leadership.

Giuliani expressed, “America is the land of opportunity and New York is what connects the rest of the world to the United States of America. Unfortunately, our leadership over the last 14 months…over the last 10 years, have been doing everything that they possibly can to dis incentivize New Yorkers from building their businesses, from building their lives, from educating their children here in New York.”

The Republican believes New York’s high-tax and anti-business environment is driving people out of the state. He also argued police are not getting enough protection and the current governor’s cap on charter schools is detrimental to families.

Giuliani went on to say he plans to advocate for tax reforms across the Empire State in an effort to roll back the red tape that has been harming small businesses.

Despite having never been elected to public office, Giuliani has said politics are in his DNA. He noted his four years in the White House as a liaison for President Donald Trump has prepared him for this moment.

Giuliani advocated for himself stating he is a genuine guy and he is not going to run from his past. “I worked four years in the White House for President Trump, I’ll say that right now. I’m not running from it. I’m not hiding from it. I’m very proud of many of the policies that we were able to accomplish.”

Giuliani is confident he will defeat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is currently facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations. Giuliani is joined by GOP primary candidates Lee Zeldin and Rob Astorino in seeking to challenge the Democrat.
