Biden’s Bloated Infrastructure Plan Criticized By Republican Lawmakers

Top Republicans have continued to condemn Joe Biden’s plan to add to the country’s debt through the implementation of a costly infrastructure package.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said Republicans and Democrats remain far apart on infrastructure reform. He made those remarks in an interview Sunday. The Louisiana lawmaker said the two sides are at odds over billions of dollars in spending for various projects, which are unrelated to infrastructure.

Cassidy is part of a group of Senate Republicans seeking to reach a compromise on infrastructure while pushing for a smaller plan. However, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) called Biden’s proposal “trillions of dollars of reckless spending.” Cassidy said Democrats may be forced to pass the infrastructure plan through budget reconciliation, which would bypass any Republican opposition.

This comes as White House officials announced Joe Biden will be heading to Louisiana. On Saturday, officials said Biden will travel to Lake Charles and New Orleans as part of the “Getting America Back on Track Tour.” Biden seeks to further campaign for his bloated infrastructure plan and promote his $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

This comes after Biden traveled to Georgia and Pennsylvania. However, he may not receive as warm a welcome from the ruby red state of Louisiana, where the 2022 midterms aren’t expected to be competitive. Biden is expected to arrive in the region on Thursday.

Meanwhile, as Biden seeks to advance his infrastructure proposal, energy independence advocacy group The Empowerment Alliance (TEA) gave him an ‘F’ grade on four pillars in their Declaration of Energy Independence. In the report card for his first 100 days, the organization gave Biden a failing grade for falling short on providing affordable energy, clean energy, abundant energy and energy from domestic sources.

In a statement, TEA claimed the nation’s energy and climate picture couldn’t be cloudier since Biden took office. The group is encouraging people to sign the declaration to push back against liberal proposals like the Green New Deal.
