Leicester Climb To Third After Thrashing 10-Man Newcastle

Image
Leicester powered into third place in the Premier League with a 5-0 demolition of 10-man Newcastle that piled pressure on Magpies boss Steve Bruce on Sunday. Brendan Rodgers’ side maintained their impressive start to the season as they romped to a fourth win in their last five league games. Ricardo Pereira opened the scoring in the first half before Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Leicester ran riot in the second half as Jamie Vardy struck either side of Paul Dummett’s own goal. Wilfred Ndidi rounded off Leicester’s biggest league win since Rodgers arrived from Celtic to replace Claude Puel in February, leaving them just two points behind second placed Manchester City. Rodgers’ appointment has proved an inspired move and Leicester look capable of challenging for a top four finish, especially given the inconsistent form of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea. Photograph: Alex Livesey/Getty Images Ole Gunnar Solskjær is open to signing a striker in January, with Manchester United’s manager admitting a rocket scientist is not required to identify his need for one. Romelu Lukaku, United’s top scorer of the past two campaigns,  was sold in the summer , while  Alexis Sánchez was loaned to Internazionale . Neither player has been replaced. With Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford injured for Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford on Monday, Solskjær may be forced to field 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as his centre-forward. This further highlights the lack of depth in attack, as does United’s 17 goals in 18 games since the Norwegian was made permanent manager in March. Solskjær was emphatic when asked if he may look to acquire a goalscorer in the winter transfer window.

But there's no tears shed. It's a good moment for everybody, and we're both excited about our futures." Epstein called Maddon a lifelong friend and said he believes there will be a bidding war for the now-former manager's se
