Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo was involved in an auto accident on Sunday, January 26, 2020. The car accident occurred around Ozo road in Delta State with the car of the 35-year-old badly damaged. No life was lost, it was said that he was with his mother when the incident occurred. The car was a complete write-off indicating how serious the accident was. Narrating the ordeal, Obodo revealed the accident was the second he had this year. “That was two days ago I was coming back from Enugu where I went to bury my Uncle on the 16th,” he said about the car wreckage. “At about 3pm along Ozoro, I was driving at about 110 [km/h]. “The road was a freeway, but then I noticed a pothole and started to pump the brakes to avoid running into it. Russian President Vladimir Putin Russia said Thursday it was closing its border with China to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin told a government meeting that the order had been signed "to take measures to close the border (with China) in the Far East," Russian news agencies reported. The coronavirus epidemic has killed 132 people, infected nearly 6,000, and spread to some 15 countries.

The newly elected senator representing Akwa Ibom North West, Christopher Ekpeyong, was sworn in on Thursday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan. Ekpeyong won the rerun election ordered by the Court and conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on January 25. The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs,  Senator Godswill Akpabio, who contested the February 2019 National Assembly election as a sitting senator on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, had dragged Ekpeyong to court. Ekpeyong's victory was cut short by the Appeal Court which directed INEC to conduct a fresh poll. But Ekpeyong won again in the January 25, 2020 re-run election for Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District. The lawmaker took the oath administered by the Deputy Clerk of the Senate, Musa Abdullahi, at 10:40 am after the adoption of the votes and proceedings for Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
