DSS vs IPOB: Killing of unarmed youths senseless – Peter Obi

Image
Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent killings in Emene, Enugu State. A clash between the Department of States Services (DSS) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a week ago left some persons dead. The DSS  confirmed that it lost two operatives. The Biafra agitators too said members were killed, with many currently in detention or missing. On Saturday, Obi stated his position on Twitter. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate in 2019 demanded a thorough investigation. "The recent killing of unarmed youths in Enugu is condemnable, just as the senseless killing of Nigerians in any part of the country. “I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling for a panel of inquiry to be set up to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing to avoid such recklessness in the future”, he tweeted.

Unrest in Malmo city after copy of Muslim holy book is burned during a far-right rally in a mainly immigrant district. At least 10 people were arrested in southern Sweden and several police officers injured in violence triggered by an illegal protest where a copy of the Quran was burned.u Protesters in Malmo city threw stones at police and burned tyres on the streets late on Friday, with violence escalating as the night wore on, according to police and local media. The demonstration of about 300 people was connected to a rally earlier on Friday in which far-right activists burned a copy of the Muslim holy book in Rosengard, a largely migrant neighbourhood, police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told Swedish tabloid, Expressen. Anti-Muslim Danish politician Rasmus Paludan was expected to attend that rally, but was stopped by the police at the Swedish-Danish border, police said. American rapper Ice Cube has never shied from offering blistering critiques of American racism and the political and economic system that it has fostered. From seminal hits like Straight Outta Compton (1988) and F*** Tha Police (1988) with hip-hop group NWA, to his solo efforts such as Black Korea (1991) and I Wanna Kill Sam (1991), where he literally predicted the LA Riots of 1992 in the song's lyrics, while calling for the "ultimate drive-by" against a United States government that has rarely let up on its unremitting war against African Americans. So it is not surprising that Ice Cube remains little more impressed with the present Democratic offering of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the presidential race than he is with incumbent President Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence. In an Instagram video uploaded shortly after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) formally announced the Biden and Harris nomination, he  explained : "What I didn't

Peace for peace formula does not exist - opinion

Image
Prime Minister  Benjamin Netanyahu , after announcing the deal with the United Arab Emirates, initiated a media blitz with the help of his ministers, supporters and ads in the weekend newspapers suggesting the agreement with the UAE fits the formula of “peace for peace.” It does not. The sole novelty is that the Emirates decided not to wait for a solution to the  Israeli-Palestinian conflict  and decided to normalize relations with the Jewish state. The formula remains – as it was with Egypt, Jordan and in some ways with Gaza – land for peace. In his own voice, Netanyahu said the agreement with the Emirates became possible only after Israel canceled its planned annexation of Palestinian territories. The American and Emirati spokesmen repeated that publicly. In other words, the cancellation of the annexation permitted the deal. The deal was made possible in part by Israel compromising on land. The only formula which that reflects land for peace, not peace for peace. In a sec

Image
Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski, has said that he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or prize this season. Organisers of the award, France Football, last month announced the event will not hold this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lewandowski would have been a hot favourite to win it, having netted 55 times in all competitions for the German side. His goals helped Bayern win the Treble – Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League. The 32-year-old insists the Ballon d’Or was never on his mind this term, but he thinks he would have been a worthy winner. When asked which player he would have given the award to, Lewandowski told Onet and Przeglad Sportowy: “Myself. We won everything there was to win. I won the award for top goalscorer in every competition. I think a player who achieves this would win the Ballon  Follow us on twitter (ajuede.com) or on Instagram (ajuedeman) for details of the global situation presently.

BELARUS WITHDRAWS ACCREDITATION, DEPORTS JOURNALISTS IN CRACKDOWN

EU to blacklist up to 20 Belarus officials to press leader (2:33) Authorities in Belarus have deported some foreign journalists reporting in the country and withdrawn the accreditation of many Belarusian reporters covering large anti-government protests that erupted after a disputed presidential election earlier this month. Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in recent weeks, rejecting President Alexander Lukashenko's landslide victory in the August 9 vote, which his opponents say was rigged.  Several people have been killed and hundreds more wounded during a violent police crackdown, with thousands of protesters detained. Ahead of another protest planned for Sunday, the Belarusian Association of Journalists said at least 17 journalists were stripped of their accreditations, which are  issued by the foreign ministry. Among them were  a video journalist and a photographer from Reuters news agency, two from the BBC and four from Radio Liberty. &q
