Former President Donald Trump (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images) Former President Donald Trump blasted President Joe Biden for the "spiraling tsunami" at the southern border. His comments came in a  statement  released on Friday afternoon. Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway posted a copy of the statement on her Twitter account. "The spiraling tsunami at the border is overwhelming local communities, depleting budgets, crowding hospitals, and taking jobs from legal American workers," he said. "When I left office, we had achieved the most secure border in our country’s history. Under Biden, it will soon be worse, more dangerous, and more out of control than ever before. He has violated his oath of office to uphold our Constitution and enforce our laws. "Our border is now totally out of control thanks to the disastrous leadership of Joe Biden. Our great Border Patrol and ICE agents have been disrespected, demeaned, and mocked by the Biden administration. A

DeSantis, Pence top 2024 Republican primary surveys – if Trump doesn’t run

To state the obvious:  Former President Trump remains the dominant force in  the GOP  and the most popular figure among Republican voters. As Trump flirts with a  2024 presidential run  to regain the White House, the early data clearly shows that if the nomination race were held today, the former president would be the overwhelming favorite. Without Trump in the race, a new survey conducted by a GOP pollster who worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign and the then-president’s 2020 reelection campaign, points to   former Vice President Mike Pence  and  Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis  as the early favorites in what may end up being a large field of GOP White House hopefuls. Florida Gov. Eric Swalwell, who was a House manager in Donald Trump’s 2nd impeachment trial, filed a lawsuit Friday against the former president, his son, lawyer, and a Republican congressman whose actions the suit claims led to January’s attack on the U.S. Capitol. The California Democrat’s suit was filed in federal court in Washington. It alleges a conspiracy to violate civil rights, along with negligence, inciting a riot and inflicting emotional distress. It follows a similar suit filed by Rep. Bennie Thompson last month in an attempt to hold the former president accountable in some way for his actions Jan. 6, following his Senate acquittal. Swalwell charges that Trump, his son Donald Jr., along with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Republican Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, had made “false and incendiar

Biden wants new war powers vote in Congress for authorizing America's foreign wars, Psaki says

The White House on Friday said it is "committed" to working with  Congress  on new legislation to repeal current presidential war powers to be replaced with a "narrow and specific framework" to protect U.S. national security, while "ending the forever wars." The commitment comes after a bipartisan group of senators, led by Sens. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Todd Young, R-Ind., on Wednesday called for the repeal of  presidential war powers  granted by Congress in 1991 and 2002, which would revoke authorization for military force in the Middle East, as  tensions rise between the U.S. and Iran. I "Tim Kaine has been a leader on questions of war powers throughout his time in the Senate and has helped build a strong bipartisan coalition that understands the importance of Congress’s constitutional prerogatives," White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted Friday. "We are committed to working with Congress to ensure that the authorizations for the use o
