During a press conference on Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said his state will lower the COVID vaccination eligibility age from 65 to 60. The governor said the change will go into effect next week.

DeSantis previously hinted at the move, saying the age requirement would decrease as the number of vaccinations and supplies continue to increase.

“Hopefully by next week we’ll get another shipment of the Johnson & Johnson in. I anticipate what we just got will be gone probably within the next few days,” DeSantis stated. “It seems to be pretty popular, we want to gauge exactly how that’s going to go, but I do think this is the right time to do it.”

Currently, the demand from seniors needing the vaccine is going down and vaccination sites are beginning to see a lower turnout of eligible people.
