Seven days to the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there is palpable anxiety over the speculation that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may dump the ruling party at the federal level if the exercise, scheduled for May 29 and 30, is manipulated against him. Tinubu is one of the front runners in the contest for the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was this weekend entering the final stretch with the presidency and the party’s governors engaged in a battle of wits with one another in the battle to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s potential successor. Also in close contest for the ticket are the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Despite the fact that 25 aspirants collected and returned the expression of interest and nomination forms, the race was this weekend narrowing down to four aspirants with Tinubu and Osinbajo prominent among the quartet. The other two still walking in the shadows are the choices of the governors’ camp and that of the president. The identity of these two were beginning to emerge and are bound to crystalise in the days ahead.

The US has already invested tens of billions of dollars in military weapons to Ukraine. The New York Post  reported. The US and its NATO allies should prepare a “devastating” response to potential Russian nuclear action, Sen. Mitt Romney said on Saturday. The call to action comes on the heels of threats from the Kremlin and warnings from Russian diplomats that the country’s Ukraine invasion could lead to a nuclear strike, the Utah Republican wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times. “Russia’s use of a nuclear weapon would unarguably be a redefining, reorienting geopolitical event,” Romney, 75, wrote. “We should imagine the unimaginable, specifically how we would respond militarily and economically to such a seismic shift in the global geopolitical terrain.”

US Envoy Meets Taliban Diplomat, Presses Women's Rights

Since surging back to power last year, the Taliban have imposed a slew of restrictions on civil society, many focused on reining in the rights of women and girls.
