Who is Afra? - Onyeji Nnaji

Image
You have been deceived by the claim that Frank Opigo, an Ijaw king was the the man who gave our nation the name Biafra; but that is a very big lie. Before the father of Ijaw nation was brought to Anioma to serve his lord and master, Ezechime, the land Biafra had lasted for over 1000,000 years before Christ.  What  would you say then, hearing that as far back as 1472, when Ijaw was not yet been pushed to the waterfront, a Portuguese navigator and explora,  Fernão  do Pó,  visited this part of the world and gave an exact description of Biafra in his document. According to him, "It was a town identified as Biafra or Biafara on the river in the area east of the Benin empire". This was the part of the land which was later marked as 'Bight of Biafra'.  Bioko Island was later named after him,  Fernão  do Pó.  It has nothing to do with Ijaw people because it metamorphosed from someone's name. The person was Afra.    See also: The Origin and Meaning of Biafra In the view o

This is Obalike, the first Eze Nri to be seen. Also Read: Nri Kings are Truly Imortals That one is an Ignorant does not make him an acquaintance of the IGBO history. The reason is simple, Igbo history is not realised ordinarily; it is intertwined with the life, culture, tradition, religion and the ceremonies that the Igbo are known. To understand how Igbo history is decoded, you may need to check here . At UNN in 2017, after presenting a paper on Igbo history, a professor who fortunately held from Nri approached me and said that I was wrong by not stressing that we migrated from Israel. I listened to his blunders; but my patience couldn't wait when he told me he held from Nri. Unfortunately, when I ask him a little question about his relationship with Yorubas, he said we are not related. That was when I knew he had read books written by Basden and Jeffrey. So, when I quoted three ancient tablets excavated from Egypt, he said he had no idea. "What about the IGBO oral history to

Igbo Origin from Oral History - Onyeji Nnaji

We need to set the record straight. The problem affecting understanding of the origin of the Igbo race was occasioned by the white race who came to our land. That is why ordinary savages like Ijaw whose father was the servant of Ezechime could open his mouth to say they were the first to occupy the east. But when I finished compiling Ijaw history and shared it to Asari Dokubo, he Began to change his narrative with the claim that he has Igbo blood in him. The  white men had ancient scrolls and stone books pointing towards the east as the origin of humanity.  When they came to Egypt, they collected relevant documents from the Egyptian temple and used it to construct a history for Africa tracing us to Noah's linage called cush. Aristotle did this when he accompanied the Mecedonian legend, Alexander the Great, to Egypt and Ethiopia in search of the river of life (472 BC.). When the Europeans arrived in Igboland, they found several imstances of Egyptian culture with the Igbo. M.D.W. Je

Before the Pyramids became significantly dedicated to the gratification of the enhanced history of the people of the east; the people among whom it is dully established that they peopled the ancient civilization crusade all over the globe, the Ignorant have been completely misconstrued. These people from the east were known for scarifications and indestructible ancient artistic emblems (known as Ichi) which are found as eviden ce in all the part of the world they civilized. They civilized the ancient Egypt, after which they established their presence in Anatolia Turkey, Europe India etc.  Apart from their cuneific writings, they did not leave their  civilisers without traces of their language . It was also established, as Petrie dully affirmed in 1893 that these men of cornific writings and Ichi scarifications were the introducers of the pharaonic culture and believed to be the pharaonic race. Invariably, the pharaohs were not original inhabitants of Egypt. It is of evidence that the s

What Does Igbo Mean? - Onyeji Nnaji

In digging into the infinite past and future, the Igbo use  Uwa-tu-uwa .  It also refers to antiquity beyond imaginable dating. Uwa-tu-Uwa, when translated means “earth-to-earth. This concept is clearly different from time-to-time which in turn means site na-oge rue na-oge. The Igbo use the term Uwa-tu-Uwa to refer to the time when humanity gained entrance into this ecological earth. And to the Igbo, they existed since time immemorial simply referred to as Uwa-tu-Uwa.  Osita Osadebe gave us clue of this in his renowned tract, "Ma nke- Ojo". Referring to  Uwa -tu-Uwa, Osadebe says, “Chukwu kere anyi gbo gbo (God created us ancient-time from ancient-time). And the inhabitants, referring to originality, always use three terms to show this. The terms are: Nwa-Afor, Nwa Diala and Ama-Ala translated to mean integral child or son-of-the-soil. Invariably, the Igbo tell his story as one who had been in time immemorial or a people representing the set of people who inhabited the plan

The image of Eri, the fist Igbo ancestor P. E. Okwoli, a historic Igala writer made a staring remark that, when people speak like another people or share similar cultural properties with others, it becomes expedient to know that they had had encounters in the past. Okwoli, by this, was of the opinion that similarities in cultural practices or language could be evidence of biological relationship or a proof of meetings in the past. These are natural phenomena; but in Africa (especially Nigerians) these relationships have been utterly misinterpreted to mean a place of origin for the part of Nigeria concerned. Nigerians do not think of peopling others, instead they subscribe to the later. I n 2003, Dr. Atkinson and Russell Gray, another biologist at the University of Auckland carried out a succession of the sequence of research Arkinson's earlier research on the origin of the human tongue and came to the conclusion that,  "The presence of a particular language in many other lan

Altercations: Why is Christmas Celebrated on Different Dates?

Palestinians light Christmas tree in Manger Square outside the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, November 30, 2019 (photo credit: REUTERS/MUSSA QAWASMA) It would be shocking to hear that, in Jerusalem and nearby Bethlehem, unlike anywhere else, the birthday of the Christian messiah is celebrated three times. The New Testament is mute about the date of Jesus’ birth. Indeed, it may have occurred in the spring rather than shortly after the winter solstice since Luke records that shepherds were “abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night.” Traditionally shepherds in Palestine guard their flocks around the clock at the spring lambing time; during the winter months, the animals are penned in corrals, unwatched. In Jerusalem and nearby Bethlehem, unlike anywhere else, the birthday of the Christian messiah is celebrated three times. In cities such as New York, London or Sydney, Christmas is celebrated on January 6 by Russians, Greeks, Serbs and other followers of the East

The Origin and Meaning of 'Biafra' - Onyeji Nnaji

Anytime the vibratory word, BIAFRA, is mentioned, attentions go straight to the Igbo people of the present contraption called Nigeria. With this, one may be pricked to ask such rhetorical questions as: * Are the Igbos the Biafrans only? * Why are other Biafrans, connoting the entire areas mapped out as Biafra during the Nigerian civil war, not feeling the same way? These questions beat imaginations to answer correctly without scourges left in people's minds. The reason is that, after the civil war of 1967-1970, many Biafrans began to repudiate from their real history and began to assert new names that relatively took them disassociatedly out of the Biafra core, the Igbo race. The nations in River State and others in Delta and Ibibio/Anang communities openly denounced their Igbo origins in the claim that they acquired the Igbo language via trade and other communication means through which they had met with the Igbo in the past. This historical repudiation afforded them the criminal
