COVID-19: Jack Ma donates 500 ventilators to Nigeria, other African countries

Nigeria and fifty-three other African countries would receive 500 ventilators donated by Ali Baba Foundation to African Union Member States, The PUNCH reports. Also donated to fight coronavirus in Africa were 200,000 suits and face masks, 2,000 thermometers, 1m swabs and extraction kits as well as 500,000 gloves. The Founder of Ali Baba Group, Jack Ma, who made this revelation on Monday, said the donation is the second batch to Africa, hinting that the medical equipment would be distributed by Ethiopian Airlines. The airline had on March 24 delivered Nigeria’s share of the first batch of medical supplies donated by the philanthropist to Africa which has recorded over 9,000 coronavirus cases and over 400 attendant deaths. Russia's coronavirus cases tops 1,000 for first time on Dailies

The number of coronavirus cases in Russia rose by more than 1,000 for the first time to reach 7,497 in the past 24 hours, the country's crisis response center said on Tuesday. The number of reported cases rose by 1,154 while deaths rose by 11 to 58, the center said. Philippines reports 14 new coronavirus deaths, 104 more infections

The Philippines' health ministry on Tuesday reported 14 new coronavirus deaths and 104 additional infections. Deaths have reached 177 and total cases 3,764, Health Secretary Francisco Duque told a news conference.   President Rodrigo Duterte earlier in the day extended to the end of April strict quarantine measures on the country's main island implemented to contain the outbreak. Spain's coronavirus deaths up to 13,798 as pace ticks up again

  The pace of coronavirus deaths in Spain ticked up slightly for the first time in five days on Tuesday, with 743 people succumbing overnight to reach a total of 13,798 . That compared to 637 people who died during the previous 24 hours in the nation with the second highest toll of fatalities in the world from the COVID-19 pandemic.   Total cases rose to 140,510 on Tuesday from 135,032 on Monday, the health ministry said. Iran records 133 new coronavirus deaths, toll at 3,872

  Iran's coronavirus death toll rose to 3,872 with 133 deaths in the past 24 hours, Health Ministry spokesman Kianush Jahanpur told state TV on Tuesday. At a time when the world is scrambling to respond to COVID-19 and ensure that hospitals can treat all patients, Yemen has entered the sixth year of a war that has all but decimated its healthcare system. COVID-19 Homecoming: United States Evacuates 376 American Citizens From Nigeria

At least 376 United States citizens departed Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, for Washington Dulles International Airport on Monday as a result of the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria. The chartered flight operated by Ethiopian Airlines departed at about 5:25pm and is the first in a series of repatriation flights for American citizens out of Lagos. Additional flights are expected to depart Lagos within the next few days.   Priority on repatriation flights is given to the elderly, individuals with serious health issues, unaccompanied minors, pregnant women, and physically challenged citizens.  Before boarding, health officials in Lagos conducted temperature checks on all passengers.  One of the evacuees, Mr Gabriel Idigo, expressed gratitude to the United States Government for rendering assistance to citizens stranded in Nigeria.
