Nigerian Army faces morale crisis as 356 soldiers exit over “loss of interest”

Three hundred and fifty-six (356) soldiers are formally exiting the  Nigerian Army  citing “loss of interest”, PREMIUM TIMES can report, in a development insiders say is indicative of broken morale in the army. The army is currently engaged in various combat operations as insecurity worsens across the country. Many of the soldiers are among the troops engaged in the decade-long war against Boko Haram in the Northeast, while others are from various other formations across the country. But apart from the 356 who are leaving for losing interest in the army, 24 others are exiting because they want “to take traditional title,” making a total of 380 soldiers, including two Master Warrant Officers and 28 Warrant Officers, voluntarily discharging from the army, according to sources with direct knowledge of the development. Protests erupt in Russia's Far East after arrest of governor over years-old murders

Thousands of   Russians   protested on the streets in the country's remote Far Eastern territory of Khabarovsk on Saturday after their governor was arrested and flown to Moscow on charges for years-old murders, in a detention criticized as a politically motivated move by   President Vladimir Putin's government . Live feeds of the protests posted to social media from the event showed people chanting: "This is our land" and "Putin must resign," while demanding Khabarovsk Governor Sergey Furgal be released and brought back to the territory. State-run media TASS reported on Thursday that Furgal had been arrested, while  a video posted to YouTube  by the Russian state's Investigative Committee showed the governor being pulled from his vehicle by masked officers in fatigues, who then pat him down and put him in a van before driving away.  Khabarovsk Governor Sergey Furgal is escorted into a police van after a court hearing in Moscow on Friday.

Turkey vows to 'liberate Al-Aqsa' after turning Hagia Sophia to mosque

The resurrection of Hagia Sophia heralds the Liberation of the Al-Aqsa mosque, the Turkish Presidency website says. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to “liberate al-Aqsa mosque” from Israel after “resurrecting  Hagia Sophia ” as a mosque on Friday. The decision to change the status of the ancient Hagia Sophia church, which had been transformed into a mosque in 1453 and then into a museum in 1934, was made controversially last week. It follows an increasingly religious authoritarian agenda from Ankara that has made Turkey the world’s largest jailer of journalists, seen dissidents imprisoned for “terrorism” and witnessed increasing military invasions of neighboring countries by Turkey.
