On Wednesday, Stitt approved the legislation which places a ban on abortions from the point of conception. The law takes effect immediately upon the governor’s signature and prohibits all abortions with few exceptions. Abortion providers have said they will stop performing the procedure as soon as the bill is signed. “I promised Oklahomans that as governor I would sign every piece of pro-life legislation that came across my desk and I am proud to keep that promise today,” the Republican said in a statement. “From the moment life begins at conception is when we have a responsibility as human beings to do everything we can to protect that baby’s life and the life o

Abaribe Joins APGA, Resigns Officially from PDP

A file photo of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.   The Minority leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Senator Abribe made his decision known in a letter to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in his ward, Ward 5, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State. In the letter dated May 24, 2022, the Senator wrote, “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity, and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents”. Concerning his next move, he told Channels Television that he would be vying for the Abia South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Amaechi loses bid to stop alleged N96bn fraud probe

Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi The Supreme Court has declined a suit seeking to stop the planned probe of N96 billion fraud allegedly involving the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, during his time as the Rivers State Governor. While dismissing the suit on Friday, the appellate court in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of Justices, submitted that there was no justification to stop the probe of the All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant. Amaechi’s suit at the High Court of Rivers State and Court of Appeal had earlier been dismissed prompting his case at the Supreme Court. He is seeking to stop a probe into the alleged N96 billion sale of assets belonging to Rivers State. The incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike had constituted a seven-man probe panel to probe Amaechi over the sale of assets. The presiding judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen gave the judgement on Friday. He also held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of president again cannot be stopped by any retroactive law. Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan A Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, will on Friday (today) rule on the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the presidential election even as  The PUNCH  learnt on Thursday that the Presidency cabal led by the President’s influential nephew, Mamman Daura, had thrown its weight behind Jonathan. This is coming at a time the All Progressives Congress granted the former President waiver to contest.
