The governor of Florida recently reaffirmed his support for small business owners and restaurant workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Ron DeSantis (R) held a press conference alongside small business owners at the Okeechobee Steakhouse in West Palm Beach, Florida. During the briefing, he called for restaurants to stay open.

DeSantis pointed to stats showing COVID-19 is mostly transmitted through small family gatherings and not through restaurants. He added, people should be informed about the possible risks of dining out and be given the freedom to choose whether they want to do so or not.

“Most of the contact tracing that’s been done has restaurants as very low in terms of where these infections can be traced to,”explained the governor. “It doesn’t mean it can’t happen here, but I think we have to understand the vast, vast majority of the infections are occurring in people’s homes.”

DeSantis said he supports each and every restaurant worker as well as business owner facing economic hardship due to coronavirus lockdowns.
