Joe Biden to get coronavirus vaccine on Monday
President-elect Joe Biden and incoming first lady Jill Biden will receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination next Monday.
The next first couple's plans were announced by Biden's pick for White House press secretary, Jen Psaki. They'll be given the shot in public in Wilmington, Delaware, she told reporters on Friday.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband, incoming second gentleman Doug Emhoff, will roll up their sleeves the following week, Psaki said.
Biden's plans come after the country's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, recommended the two-term vice president be inoculated "for security reasons."
"You want him fully protected as he enters into the presidency in January," said Fauci, who will continue in his role under Biden's administration, as well as serve as his chief medical adviser.
Current Vice President Mike Pence received his first COVID-19 vaccine dose Friday on TV, the highest-profile world leader to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
