THE BLOOD OF BIAFRA - F.F.Kayode

“And the Lord asked Cain, ‘where is thy brother Abel?’ And he said ‘I know not: am I my brother’s keeper?’ And the Lord said, ‘what have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground’- Genesis 4: 9-10. Today is Biafra day. It is a day that has been set aside to honor the memory of the 3 to 5 million Biafran civilians that were killed in the Nigerian civil war which took place from 1967 to 1970. It is pertinent to note that 95% of those that were killed were civilians and at least one million of them were innocent children who were purposely targetted and systematically and clinically starved to death. This is one of the greatest war-time atrocities and barbaric acts of ethnic cleansing, mass murder and genocide in human history and the entire world sat by silently and watched with horror and disgust as the Nigerian state effected it with cold-blooded precision. To use Macbeth’s infamous words in William Shakespeare’s famous play, this was indeed a “bloody

The Agony of Becoming a Biafra

Americans proudly say they are Americans; the same applies to people of  every other nations across the globe. But when an Igbo calls himself a Nigerian, he is pushed to die. It was for this reason that the Nigerian presidency and minister of  information clearly stated that no Nigerian was killed in the South African xenophobic attack on the Igbo. Were the people billed Fulani,  South Africa would have apologized. Within Nigeria also, Fulani are not hurt when they say they are AREWA. But, should anyone say he is a Biafran, he will rotten in jail. When mercy could not save the situation, then the fellow is shot at sight. Life invariably becomes the price for stating one's identity. Weeks ago, two people were discussing their beautiful views about the nation, Bisfra, when created; little did they knew that they have bought their Death tickets by mentioning Biafra while on the bus. From Port Harcourt, they were heading East. As the bus got to a checking point, a fellow passenger excu

The slaughter of the Igbo has never been a thing of concern to the British who intentionally positioned the Fulani to perpetrate the havoc they could not achieve during colonial days. The primary purpose for the British intention to exterminate the Igbo sprung from their inability to conquer and overtake the Nri ancestrial leadership.  It is on record that Britain made every manful attempts to penetrate the Nri kingdom like that of the Benin, buy all their arsenal was a waste as the power that hover around the kingdom did not let them pass. In anger, the British colonial masters unanimously announced a genocide of the Igbo population if Eze Nri did not show up at the courtin Awka. When this planned genocide failed, Britton have deployed every machinery to wipe out the Igbo. A British Commissioner rightly said that the millions dying in the Igbo land in the 1960s will not make Britton to let Biafra go. TODAY, WE CELEBRATE THE PASSING OF THE HIROES OF BIAFRA.

The Itsekiri Liberation Group has issued a fourteen days ultimatum to the federal government demanding the appointment and inauguration of a substantive Board for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. The group insisted that all NDDC projects within the Itsekiri domain must be fully funded by the federal government. A statement signed by the group’s Chairman and Secretary, Mone Oris and Ajofortan Omagbemi respectively threatened to shut down all oil installations as well as seal the NDDC’s offices in Delta and Edo States. The group said, “The appointment of Interim Management Board and later Sole Administrator by the Federal Government of Nigeria all negates the law that established the NDDC in the year 2000 and the attendant effects on the Niger Delta people (especially the Itsekiri people that produces over 22 percent of the oil in Nigeria). “Over the years, we have noticed with utmost dismay that the Federal Government is taking the peaceful and law-abiding disposition of th
