Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Senator Dino Melaye and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have escaped assassination attempt on Saturday in Benin City, Edo State, as unknown gunmen engaged in sporadic shooting at the gate of the Palace of Oba of Benin. The PDP Campaign Team had visited the royal father before moving to the campaign venue.

gathered that several people sustained gunshot injuries; they were seen in a video on AIT LIVE Online groaning in pains with blood rushing out of bullet spots on their bodies. The victims include men and women.
Many of them had come to the palace to add colour to the visit of the PDP Campaign team to the Oba of Benin.
The Campaign team included the Campaign Chairman, Governor Wike, incumbent Governor Obaseki, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Senator Dino Melaye, PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and others.

learnt that the campaign team left the Oba’s Palace for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the campaign.

Some stakeholders in Edo State are already demanding the arrest or interrogation of the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was alleged to have purportedly said at the APC governorship campaign on Friday that he is prepared to take bullets for his actions, which many attributed to his opposition to the incumbent Governor Obaseki and sponsorship of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
