Multiple NYPD officers stabbed with machete near Times Square

Multiple New York City Police officers were stabbed by a suspect wielding a machete just blocks away from the New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue on Saturday, a source from the New York Fire Department confirmed to FOX News.

At least two officers were stabbed in the incident, including a rookie cop on his first day on the job.

Kathy Griffin swipes at CNN, Andy Cohen ahead of New Year's coverage

Kathy Griffin took a shot at CNN and Andy Cohen ahead of the network’s New Year’s Eve broadcast on Saturday. 

"I can’t wait to watch Miley and Dolly tonight," the comedian, who was famously fired from her annual New Year’s co-hosting gig with then-friend Anderson Cooper, wrote on Instagram, referring to NBC’s competing New Year show with Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton. 

Griffin was removed from the show ahead of New Year’s 2017 after the liberal comic posted a graphic and controversial image depicting her holding what looked like a decapitated head of then-President Trump. 

She also shared a video from 2017 in which a TMZ reporter conducted an odd interview with Cohen asking him about replacing Griffin for the New Years show in which the "Watch What Happens" host repeatedly claimed he didn’t know who she was.

Global population projected to increase to more than 7.9 billion

The global population is projected by the U.S. Census Bureau to increase to 7,942,645,086 in January 2023 from New Year's Day a year ago.

In the U.S., the population will go up by 1,571,393 to 334,233,854, according to the Census Bureau.

President Biden reflects on 2022 accomplishments

President Biden reflected on his accomplishments in his second year in office on New Year's Eve, writing "In 2022, we took on some of our nation's greatest challenges and delivered."

In a video included in the tweet, he cited getting Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on the U.S. Supreme Court, securing the release of Brittney Griner from Russia, the Inflation Reduction Act, and Democrats' surprise success in the midterms among the year's accomplishments.

'The Five' detail their New Year's resolutions

“The Five” went around the table Saturday night explaining their New Year’s resolutions.

Judge Jeanine Pirro kicked it off with a simple resolution to eat less sugar but joked “Now, if only I could convince myself of that.”

Jesse Watters joked that for a second year in a row his resolution was to “be nicer” to co-host Jessica Tarlov. “There’s just something about you,” he kidded before adding that he would also work on not interrupting people.

British PM gives New Year's address: Will work for 'very best of Britain'

New British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak gave his first New Year's address Saturday, saying the country's problems "won't go away" in 2023 but he'll work hard to bring out the "very best of Britain."

"2023 will give us the opportunity to showcase the very best of Britain on the world stage, defending freedom and democracy wherever we find it under threat," he said.

Sunak is the U.K's third prime minister this year after both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss resigned.

The New Year comes amid changes in the country as the British have experienced their third prime minister and a new monarch all in 2022.

Boris Johnson and Liz Truss stepped down and Queen Elizabeth II died in September.

In anticipation of the festivities, the government stationed air defenses over Moscow and handed out shelter directions to citizens in Belgorod near the Ukrainian border.

Russia readies air defenses over Moscow ahead of New Year celebrations

Russian President Vladimir Putin readied 2,000 soldiers to oversee Moscow’s air defenses to stand "on duty at combat posts on New Year's Eve."

Another 20,000 servicemen were put on "combat duty" to oversee air defenses through the weekend.

The move comes as Russia itself has increasingly become the target of Ukrainian shelling as Moscow continues to pummel Ukrainian cities amid its "special military operation."

Kyiv sees deadly New Years Eve amid Russian missile attacks

Russia fired 20 cruise missiles across Ukraine on New Years Eve, killing one, injuring dozens and forcing civilians to take cover.

Twelve of the 20 missiles were shot down by Ukraine's defense forces, but at least one person was killed in Kyiv along with another 16 who were injured. Seven people were also injured in the Khmelnytskyi region, with three in serious condition.

The fireworks were launched from the Taipei 101 building, which is not only the tallest building on the island, but one of the tallest in the world.

China celebrates New Year holiday on ice

People in Beijing celebrated the New Year's Eve holiday by heading to the frozen Shicha Lake for ice skating and other festivities.

Though the traditional Chinese New Year that celebrates the lunisolar and solar Chinese calendar will not begin until Jan. 22, activities like ice skating and sledding will still be held to celebrate the the New Year in accordance with the Western Georgian calendar.

Australia celebrated the New Year at 8:00 am EST with a spectacular fire work show over the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

The show Saturday was the first time the city has held its celebrations since 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic took off. COVID restrictions were lifter earlier this year.

Fox News will present 'All-American New Year' special live from Nashville

Fox News Channel will bid farewell to 2022 and ring in 2023 with an All-American New Year special, hosted by FOX & Friends Weekend’s Will Cain, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and Pete Hegseth live from the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tenn.

The show, which starts Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET, will feature a country music performance by multi-platinum artist Brantley Gilbert and a stand-up comedy set by Fox News Radio host Jimmy Failla.

Leading into the special at 9 p.m. ET will be a pre-show special, Countdown to All-American New Year. That show will be hosted by Outnumbered co-host Emily Compagno, Failla, and Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins.
