HARMONIZING THE HISTORICAL ORIGIN OF THE IKWERRE PEOPLE by Onyeji Nnaji

Note Clearly :   The name of the territory housing the inhabitants of the present day Port Hartcourt was originally  Igwe Ocha . They were Igbo , according to their oral history told to B.W. Baikie in 1854 and Major A.G. Leonard in 1906. By that time they were not called Ikwerre.  It is worthy of note to remind readers that obliteration of the cultural properties of the Ikwerre is taking the Ikwerre history away swiftly.
