The summary of Nigeria election saga is given by Joseph Stalin thus:

AKPABIO’S FALL IS A PROPHECY FULFILLED – After After

Image
The event that orchestrated Akpabio’s loss to the PDP senatorial candidate, Christ Ekpenyong began the last day Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan visited Akwa-Ibom State. During the ex-president’s visit during which he commissioned the multipurpose hall built by Godswill Akpabio at Abak town, a gift was presented to Goodluck of what use he did not know; but Akpabio knew. Since Goodluck did not know and had not given attention to what the explanation of what the gift was, he carelessly inspected it and, immediately Akpabio seized it. When this happened, the giver intoned that Goodluck will not return a second time and it happened. On the 11th November, 2018 the same person whose gift to Goodluck was confiscated by Akpabio proudly told me that Udom Emmanuel will soon mock Godswill Akpabio in the 2019 election. He said it categorically that on the day of Akpabio’s defeat, it will rain in Akwa-Ibom. Speaking to me on the 11th November, 2018, he said, “You will be here in Akwa-Ibom durin

AKPABIO LAUGHS FOR THE LAST

Image
Irked by comments credited to Senator Godswill Akpabio that his conquest of Akwa Ibom in 2019 would be likened to Adolf Hitler’s conquest of Warsaw, Poland, political stakeholders have vowed to resist him and prevent the state from sliding into an orgy of violence. Udom-Akpabio Senator Godswill Akpabio had while speaking at a funeral service at a church in Enugu, reportedly said:”Warsaw saw war and war saw Warsaw. We can’t talk politics in the church but in 2019 Warsaw shall see war and war shall see Warsaw. The return will be a victory.” Speaking at Onna during an endorsement rally hosted by the people of Eket Senatorial District for Governor Udom Emmanuel various leaders urged the governor not to be distracted by the antics of the opposition. Former minister of lands and housing, Chief Nduese chicken into submission by joining a party everyone in the state holds in disdain. Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo said “The entire Ikot Ekpene senatorial district is set to tie kith

MAN CITY WIN LEAGUE CUP

Image
Manchester City’s Belgian defender Vincent Kompany (3L) lifts the trophy as Manchester City players celebrate their victory in the English League Cup final football match between Manchester City and Chelsea at Wembley stadium in north London on February 24, 2019. Glyn KIRK / AFP Manchester City retained the League Cup by edging Chelsea 4-3 on penalties on Sunday after an incredible bust-up between Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.  The Italian tried to replace the world’s most expensive player towards the end of a cagey 120 minutes that ended 0-0. Kepa had received treatment for an injury in the final stages, but also has an inferior record of saving spot-kicks than Willy Caballero, who Sarri attempted to introduce. City goalkeeper Ederson denied Jorginho and David Luiz hit the post in the shootout before Raheem Sterling smashed the winning penalty past Kepa. Until that flashpoint, the afternoon had been a success for Sarri just two weeks on

"ACCEPT RESULTSALTS" OBASANJO ADVISES CONTESTANTS

Image
Former President  Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday advised winners of the presidential and the National Assembly elections to show magnanimity in victory, saying losers should also accept defeat. The former President said,   “In any competition, there will always be winners and losers. That is what anybody in any competition must be prepared for as a good sportsman. Whoever that wins should show magnanimity. If I lose, I will also bow down graciously. That is what any competition is all about. “If your purpose of going for any competition is that you must win at all costs, then that is no longer a competition. I know INEC will make amends for the shortcomings ahead of the next elections.” Obasanjo arrived at Ward 11, Unit 22, Olusomi Compound, Totoro Road, Sokori, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, in a black Lexus Jeep marked AAD 24 TF (Ogun), at 11:10am and cast his votes at 11:15am. He however, spoke on the challenge he encountered at his polling unit over the delay in g

OMOKIRI COMMENDS SARAKI FOR LOOSING HONOURABLY

Image
On twitter minutes ago, Reno Omokiri has commended Saraki for loosing his senatorial seat with his head held high. “Yes, Bukola Saraki lost his Senate seat, but I respect him. He went down with his head held high. There is no basis to compare him to Godswill Akpabio, a man who went to bow down to Buhari for power. What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has lost his bid for reelection into the Senate from Kwara Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). NAN reports that Saraki lost to Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Saturday’s February 23 senatorial election. Legit.ng gathers that Oloriegbe polled a total of 123, 808 votes to defeat the Senate president who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local governments of Kwara Central senatorial district. The result of the election was announced by the senatorial district returning officer, Prof Olatunbosun Owoyomi, from th

SAUDI APPOINTS A FIRST FEMALE AMBASSADOR

Image
Saudi Arabia appointed its first female to serve as an ambassador for the kingdom Saturday, naming Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud to be ambassador to the United States. The princess, a member of the Saudi royal family, has been an advocate for women's rights in the kingdom and widely seen as a rising political star in the country. She will replace Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's younger brother, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. Princess Reema lived in Washington from roughly 1975 to 2005, according to a person close to her, while her father, Bandar bin Sultan al Saud, was Saudi's ambassador to the US and as she attended George Washington University. Princess Reema has two teenaged children. A person close to the princess told CNN that her appointment predates the murder of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, but she will take her post as the country tries to smooth relations with the US after much criticism surrounding the journalist's mu

BUHARI ADMITS HE COULD BE UNSEATED

Image
The reality of who wins and who loses is always predetermined through the noise of election.  This may be true should one say that M. Buhari, who formally intoned that no one can unseat him, has finally observed suggestively that he may be unseated. The statement on his official twitter page suggests this. While he inspects the his farm in Daura, he says, “I was pleased to spend time on my farm in Daura, this morning. Agriculture will continue to be one of the priorities of our administration. I‘m proud of what we have achieved in domestic fertilizer production; financing for farmers, and support and incentives for Agric investors”.

BLASTS AND DEADLY ATTACK ROCK MAIDUGURI AS NIGERIAN ELECTIONS BEGIN

Image
Multiple blasts from bomb explosions suspected to be from the Boko Haram insurgents shook Maiduguri, Borno State, in the early hours of Saturday as Nigerians woke up on election day. The blasts, about 11 in number, were heard at about 6 a.m. It is not certain from which direction they occurred, but agitated residents said it could be another attack by Boko Haram. “A police officer, returning home from night duty told PREMIUM TIMES in Maiduguri that “we counted 11 of the explosions this morning. But we are unsure where they occurred.” Last night there were unconfirmed reports that Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked Zabarmari an outskirts area of Jere, the twin capital township of Maiduguri. It could be recalled that Boko Haram had carried out similar bomb attack last Saturday, the day Nigerians were to go to the first poll on the first round of the 2019 elections before it was rescheduled to today. 11 lives, including that of the four Boko Haram insurgents, were lost in

WHY WE CANNOT PROTECT R. KELLEY- KAGURE MUGO

Image
In the year 2018, the catchphrase seems to be “Your MCM/WCE is problematic”. There appears to be no way to engage with social media/read a newspaper without finding someone who shaped your childhood, fed you intellectually or taught you life lessons caught up in some form of messed-up behaviour. The exposure of greats as secretly awful people has been occurring for ages but in the digital age of #MeToo this has become more acute. Previous darlings of the realm are now exposed to be awful goblins who used their status to cause harm. Since R Kelly’s cult has been exposed, his 12-part song about being trapped in the closet now sounds like a horror story rather than just a strange ditty. Khalo Matabane has been directing his own personal crime dramas. Watching Bill Cosby now make him seem less suburban dad and more sinister puppet master. And the Junot Diaz saga reads more like a disturbing tele-novella than a well-constructed think piece. The list goes on and on. This is also the

AKPABIO FIGHTS TOUGHEST BATTLE FOR POLITICAL DOMINANCE IN AKWA IBOM

Image
Godswill Akpabio, a senator from Akwa Ibom State, is perhaps one Nigerian politician with the biggest task in this Saturday’s elections. First, Mr Akpabio, who is running for a second term, must ensure he beats his main opponent, Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to continue representing Akwa Ibom North-West in the Senate. Two, he has to get his “boys” (the APC candidates) to win the four House of Representatives seats in his district, in order to convincingly stamp his authority on the politics of the area. And finally, he has to make good a promise he has often made – deliver Akwa Ibom State to President Muhammadu Buhari! The last of the tasks, to say the least, appears herculean; Akwa Ibom is one state that has refused to buy into Mr Buhari’s leadership style and his administration’s programmes. If there is anything, most people in the state, including some supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appear eager to punish the president whom
