Tottenham’s leaky defence frustrating, says Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur’s leaky defence has left Jose Mourinho admitting he feels frustrated on behalf of the club’s forwards. Tottenham’s bid for a top four place in the Premier League has been hampered by several poor displays at the back since Mourinho took over the north London outfit in October. Scoring goals, however, has not been a problem with the likes of England’s Harry Kane and South Korea star Son Heung-min in fine form. Spurs, however, remain five points off the top four heading into their New Year’s Day clash away to Southampton. “The problem is the way we concede the goals and the way we play,” Mourinho said on Tuesday. “But we have to improve. We concede too many goals and it is very frustrating.” The Portuguese added, “If I was one of my attacking players I would be very frustrated that behind we are not able to stop it.” Nevertheless, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager insisted he had no intention of spending his way out of Spurs’ defensive problems in the u…

2019 not a successful year for Nigerians —Atiku

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, said the outgoing year was not a successful year for Nigerians. He also said in a statement that Nigerians faced great insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and other challenges in 2019. Atiku, who was the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, called for collaborative efforts of all stakeholders to get Nigeria out of its current challenges. He said, “I do not share the sentiment when some people claim that 2019 was a successful year for Nigerians. Such sentiments are reductionist and do the harm of making us have a false sense of victory. “The bitter truth is that Nigeria is still in the throes of economic instability, with more people losing jobs and the attendant outcome of more children being out of school and more families having a hard time in accessing basic needs of life.”

UK minimum wage to increase by four times in April —Boris Johnson

Britain’s minimum wage is to increase by more than four times the rate of UK inflation from next year, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government announced Tuesday. A 6.2 per cent increase from April takes the so-called national living wage for workers aged 25 and over from £8.21 to a minimum £8.72 ($10.79 to $11.52, 9.63 euros to 10.27 euros). Johnson, whose Conservative party’s recent general election victory came with support from economically struggling pro-Brexit areas, said it was the biggest increase since 2016. Guardiola breaks Mourinho's record

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has become the quickest manager to reach 100 wins in the Premier League, following their 2-0 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday.
Second-half goals from Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne sealed the points for the champions at Etihad Stadium. It took Guardiola only 134 matches to achieve the feat. Aguero's opener was also the 1000th goal of Guardiola's managerial career, which started at Barcelona and has taken him to Bayern Munich. The Spaniard beats the record previously held by Jose Mourinho, who achieved his 100th victory in his 142nd match as a Premier League boss, when he guided Chelsea to a 3-1 win over Manchester United in January 2014. Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp is next on the list. He reached the milestone in his 159th match against Merseyside rivals Everton earlier this month.
