Trump moves to accelerate 2025 L.A. wildfire recovery through federal action

“American families and small businesses affected by the wildfires have been forced to continue living in a nightmare of delay, uncertainty, and bureaucratic malaise as they remain displaced from their homes, often without a source of income, while State and local governments delay or prevent reconstruction by approving only a fraction of the permits needed to rebuild,” President Trump stated in the order.   In his continued pushback, Newsom described the order as useless and argued that the administration is attempting to seize local control while failing to deliver aid. “An executive order to rebuild Mars would be just as useful,” Newsom posted on social media. “The Feds need to release promised funding, not try to take over local permit approval. The main obstacle is communities not having the money to rebuild because this administration is withholding aid.” The governor’s office also later asserted that the Golden State has already issued over 1,600 permits, while emphasizi...

(Photo by Heather Diehl/Getty Images) Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to resign or face impeachment following the fatal shooting in Minnesota over the weekend. On Monday, Warren (D-Mass.) released a video stating that Noem needs to lose her job following the shooting of Alex Pretti. The intensive care nurse allegedly clashed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Minnesota before he was shot on Saturday. The White House said Pretti intended to harm federal agents, citing the extra magazines he had at the time of the shooting. Warren also called for federal law enforcement to stop their operations and to punish ag...

Sadly, the death toll is also expected to rise sharply through the night. The storm’s path has been described by the National Weather Service (NWS) as a “historic 1,300-mile corridor of disruption.” The system, unofficially named Winter Storm Fern, carved a brutal 1,300-mile path of snow and ice stretching from Arkansas to New England, paralyzing infrastructure and leaving nearly a million people i...
