Lawmakers have continued the fight to bring freedom to Cuba, demanding more action from the Biden administration. Republican leaders said they aren’t backing down from pushing freedom and democracy for the people of Cuba.

On Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) were among the attendees at a news conference in Miami, following a roundtable discussion with local Latin-American citizens.

DeSantis conveyed the message that all Americans should be interested in helping Cuba, as toppling the regime removes communist influence from the entire western hemisphere. The governor also reiterated the need for the U.S. to provide Cuba with internet in order to stop the communist dictatorship from silencing people’s communication with others on the island and with the outside world.

Florida Congresswoman Maria Salazar (R) expanded on the idea, asserting if the White House doesn’t take action to empower Cuba with a Wi-Fi connectivity platform, leaders in Miami would take matters into their own hands.

Leader McCarthy, who has recently earned high praise from the Cuban-American community for his outspokenness and firm support, expressed his desire to work with Joe Biden to help the people of Cuba. However, he said Biden is providing no action to get behind.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration recently announced sanctions against some Cuban government officials, but Cuban-Americans have noted the daily dictatorial repression on the island has continued and reported no consequences for the regime’s unjust arrests of more than 600 nonviolent protesters, some of which are missing.
