Nigerian $9m Lobby Reflects Her Corrupt Culturen- Chris Smith
Chris Smith, the Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, has criticized Tinubu’s $9 million contract with a Washington lobbying firm, saying it reflects the “culture of denial” that Nigeria is known for.
Recall that after Donald Trump labeled Nigeria a “country of particular concern” and reportedly threatened strong action, the U.S. subsequently sent delegates led by Congressman Riley Moore to Nigeria for intelligence gathering.
After that visit, Tinubu approved $9 million belonging to Nigerians — money that could have been used to address some of the problems we are facing. That same $9 million could have helped rebuild IDP camps that are constantly being attacked by terrorists and even gone as far as providing homes and shelter for displaced people. Instead, the money was paid to a U.S. lobbying firm, allegedly to whitewash the government’s shortcomings in the country.
This is why you no longer hear much about the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria.
This is also why the United States and Donald Trump are no longer speaking as tough as before.
Some media houses in Nigeria are also allegedly said to have benefited from that money, which may explain why they now regulate what they report — sometimes shifting focus to unrelated issues, like blaming a screwdriver seller in Onitsha market and similar stories.
I will be posting the video of the U.S. congressman in the comments so you can hear him speak for yourself.
