The Trial of Simon Ekpa: Day 7 - Onyeji Nnaji
Of the days that the finish court has sat on the trials of PM Simon Ekpa, the sixth day appears most interesting. Not that he has been vindicated actually, but that it is beginning to become clearer that our PM is as knowledgeable as his leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Today's court seating was very hot beyond the expectations of both the prosecuting lawyer, his packaged witnesses, the crowd in the courtroom and Finland in general.
As we have mentioned in the summary of the fifth day, today's court witnessed a testifyer from the National Bureau of Investigation, the very agency that had sat on a four month aimless investigation against PM Simon Ekpa. Always remember that, Simon has committed only one offence. This very offence has led Finland into several mess in the attempt to do the bidding of her Nigerian paymaster. Simon's crime is the same crime that has kept Nnamdi Kanu in the DSS underground prison for years. The same crime has led Nigeria into killing several innocent citizens in Igbo land and has never stopped. This killing is what both Simon and MNK are being punished for insisting that it must stop.
So, as the court was set, the testifyer from the NBI was permitted to testify against the PM. He started by calling Simon a terrorist; and continued that he has investigated his activities for four months now. He also said that he has many evidences to prove that Simon is a terrorist and has involved himself in some terrorist activities and buying of arms to that effect. At this point, Kaale Gummerus has to object to the continuation of the testifyer and requested that his client be allowed to say something concerning all these allegations. The judge agreed to this and PM Simon Ekpa was allowed to say something.
He began by greeting the judge for the ample opportunity and the court in general for staging such a hearing where he is allowed to speak. "I sit hear in the site of all these allegations over what I do not know ..." he began. After the short speech which left the courtroom in a heartfelt emotion for someone wrongly accused, Kaale Gummerus again requested that Simon cross-examines the said NBI witness. The judge accepted the request against the ranting and chattery objection of the prosecuting lawyer. Simon thanks the judge again and moved to cross-examine the witness.
He asked the witness questions bothering on the reasons he called him a terrorist to his face. He replied that the labelling has come from the result of their investigations and findings. "Findings?" Simon snapped in. "From my online posts or any physical involvement in terrorism?" he continued. "Evidences gathered proved my claims," the witness said. "Evidence from your assumed interpretations of my posts or a direct instruction from me to the actions?" PM asked. "There are evidences of your direct speeches against the government and...," Simon interrupted him from continuing. "You misinterpreted my speech against the government for killing my people for no just cause; my shared frustration for the government that has chosen to exterminate a whole race, the same frustration felt by all my people...," he continued.
PM went on to interrogate the witness to a point that he could find no word further to defend himself. His helplessness left the courtroom dumbfounded. Everyone saw that Simon is sound, despite his months of incarceration and deprivation in the finish correctional centre. He proved himself a sound lawyer who actually knew his onion. The court adjourned from this point to the next day.
In the next court seating, the NBI member is expected to present his findings. We believe that it will be hot, interesting and interactive. We shall bring you the update.
