Trump delivers closing Midterm remarks, celebrates reopening of Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

President Donald Trump delivered his closing midterm remarks at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., celebrating the historic monument’s reopening alongside his final message to voters on the eve of Election Day.
President Trump’s address follows a monthlong campaign blitz across several states, during which he held over 25 rallies — most recently making stops in Iowa and Kansas.
Speaking to reporters in front of the Reflecting Pool on Monday afternoon, Trump touted the pool’s successful reopening while making a final campaign push for the GOP on the eve of the midterms.
“A lot of people tried to protect the vandals,” Trump said during his remarks Monday afternoon. “But we got it done, we opened it just now.”
The Reflecting Pool underwent major renovations in the spring of 2026, but shortly after it was refilled in June, the water turned green with algae and the bottom lining began to blister. While initial claims attributed the damage to vandalism, subsequent court filings confirmed that the failure stemmed from a botched chemical application process, forcing officials to drain the pool again for repairs in July.
The president explained that the pipes in the historic Reflecting Pool have been replaced with new ones.
“The pipes now are totally renovated, they’re brand new pipes put in, and the pipes are very important in terms of the algae and other things,” he said. “It’s a complete job, and we’re really proud of it.”
During his remarks, President Trump also urged voters to support GOP candidates ahead of midterm elections, framing the vote as a chance to keep the country strong during “the golden age of America.”
“With your vote, we will decide these extremists will be given power or not power,” the president said. “We’ll either keep America strong — I think we’re having, this is the golden age of America. We’ve never done anything like it.”
