Federal Judge Orders Trump Admin. To Restore DACA Program
A district court judge ordered the federal government to restore the deferral program that protects illegal aliens.
On Friday, Judge Nicholas Garaufis handed forward the order, which demands the full reinstatement of DACA, a program aimed at keeping hundreds-of-thousands of undocumented immigrants from deportation.
The ‘Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program‘ was created by former President Barack Obama in 2012. It grants work permits to immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children, who are known as ‘dreamers.’
The order reverses a Trump administration memo from July, which sought to prevent widespread abuse of the program.
President Trump also sought to create a new constitutional path for immigrants to become U.S. citizens. However, the effort was met with resistance from Democrats who have defended the ‘DACA’ program, despite widespread abuse by criminals seeking to conduct illegal activity in the U.S.
The Trump administration also argued that Obama exceeded his constitutional powers by bypassing Congress when he created DACA.
The judge’s order will now require the government to respond to the ruling by Monday.
