Brazen Thieves Snatch Millions In Broad Daylight

Chicago Police officers monitor Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, on June 18, 2021. - Businesses and restaurants in downtown Chicago that survived the pandemic-related economic slump, as well as two spasms of looting last summer, should be ecstatic with Monday's reopening of America's third-largest city. Yet, many are batting a new hardship -- a surge in crime that is keeping customers, and their money, away. (Photo by KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI / AFP) (Photo by KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI/AFP via Getty Images)

Armed robbers smashed into an exotic car dealership before getting away with millions of dollars in watches. Reports said two men broke into Gold Coast Exotic Motor Cars in Chicago in broad daylight on Saturday.

Security footage showed one suspect standing guard at the Lamborghini dealership entrance while the other smashed open display cases with a hammer. Employees chased after the suspects who reportedly got away with at least eight luxury watches worth at least $1 million.

The robbery comes as Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has been blaming retailers for the surge in smash-and-grab crimes, saying she’s disappointed that stores aren’t making safety a priority.

“I’m disappointed that they’re not doing more to take safety and make it a priority,” said Lightfoot. “We still have retailers that institute plans like security officers in their stores, making sure they got cameras that are actually operational.”

For business owners like Joe Perillo, Mayor Lightfoot’s excuses aren’t helping address the real problem.
