US Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has transferred $1 million to Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's campaign, The New York Times reported Friday, as the race emerges as one of the most competitive contests of the 2026 election cycle.

"I'm not waking up on November 4th wishing I did more to combat the smears aimed at Abdul. I'm leaving everything I can on the field," Ocasio-Cortez told the newspaper.

The donation went to the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund, a joint effort involving El-Sayed's campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee. Ocasio-Cortez raised $4.7 million in the third quarter and entered October with nearly $17.4 million in cash, according to The Times.

El-Sayed defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in the Democratic primary, marking a notable victory for the party's progressive wing.

The Michigan race could prove pivotal in the battle for control of the Senate, while Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election.
