Dem incumbent Gov. Josh Green defeats Gary Cordery in Hawaii Gubernatorial election

Democrat incumbent Governor Josh Green has emerged victorious over Republican challenger Gary Cordery in the gubernatorial race for the Aloha State.

On Tuesday, Green (D-Hawaii.) secured Hawaii’s governor’s seat, receiving 237,747 votes or 74%, while Cordery (R-Hawaii.) earned 81,947 votes or 25%, according to the Associated Press when 79% of the total votes were counted.

Green is a physician who took office as the Governor of Hawaii in December 2022. Prior to his governorship, the Democrat served as Hawaii’s lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022 and represented districts in both the state House and Senate.

As Chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, he authored “Luke’s Law” to secure coverage for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and spearheaded legislation raising the legal age to purchase tobacco and e-cigarettes to 21. Beyond healthcare reform, he remains dedicated to expanding affordable housing, according to his campaign site.

Cordery is a businessman and real estate developer who founded the Oahu-based construction company Kingdom Builders in 1998. He is also a co-founder of the Aloha Freedom Coalition, a group formed to advocate against government lockdowns and mandates.

His campaign centered on government transparency, lowering taxes, addressing homelessness, and education reform, including school voucher programs.
