Hobbs wins gov. race keeping Ariz. blue
Katie Hobbs has won the Arizona gubernatorial race, defeating Republican Andy Biggs.
On Tuesday, Hobbs was re-elected to Arizona’s gubernatorial seat, receiving 1,193,939 votes or 55%, while Biggs garnered 916,236 votes or 42%, according to the Associated Press when 82% of the total votes were counted.
Hobbs, the Democrat candidate, currently serves as the 24th Governor of Arizona. Previously serving as Arizona Secretary of State from 2019 to 2023, she also served in the Arizona Senate and Arizona House of Representatives.
Raised in Tempe, Hobbs began her career as a social worker focused on youth homelessness and domestic violence prevention.
During her time in public office, Hobbs has focused on reproductive rights, public education funding and economic development across Arizona. She advanced to the general election as the Democrat nominee running for her second term alongside running mate John Giles.
Conservatives oppose Hobbs due to her record-setting reliance on the executive veto, ongoing distrust stemming from her election administration and sharp policy clashes with the state’s Republican-led legislature
Biggs, the Republican candidate who currently serves as the U.S. representative for Arizona’s 5th congressional district, is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives and the President of the Arizona Senate. He entered public office focusing on fiscal conservatism and constitutional principles.
His gubernatorial platform emphasizes tighter border security, tax reduction, deregulation, and expanding school choice initiatives. He earned an endorsement from President Donald Trump during his campaign and was running on a ticket with running mate Sine Kerr.
