Controversy is growing about the extent to which Iran is smuggling weapons to Hezbollah through Syria, with defense sources, probably connected to Defense Minister Israel Katz, leaking that the issue is heating up, while the IDF has said that there is no major change taking place.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that a report by Channel 12 based on the anonymous defense sources did not come from them, but advocated that it correctly sized up the increasingly problematic situation.

Following Ahmad al-Sharaa taking power in Syria in December 2024, he cracked down on smuggling weapons through his territory to Hezbollah, given that he is Sunni and had been fighting Hezbollah for around a decade.
