President Trump approves major disaster declaration for Indiana after storms

President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for Indiana after severe storms and devastating flooding hit many parts of the state this month.

Numerous areas around the state were impacted by storms and torrential rainfall that led to flooding, including counties in southeast Indiana.

Members of FEMA and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are conducting damage assessments in impacted counties.

Additionally, Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund will provide up to $5,000 in emergency aid grants to Hoosiers in need of assistance.

Last week, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun requested federal disaster assistance from FEMA, which has been granted by the president.

This makes federal funding available to people who were impacted by storms in the following counties: Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union and Wayne.

People who sustained losses and are seeking damage relief should file claims with their insurance providers before applying for assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App.

According to Braun, all of Indiana’s public safety agencies, including the Indiana National Guard, Indiana State Police, Department of Correction and Department of Natural Resources were deployed on active emergency response missions.
