Origin of the Word, 'AFRICA' - Onyeji Nnaji

So many false history have been given about Africa and her composite societal populations for years. We have taken these false narratives because Africans hardly find adequate time to deeply research and unravel the deception propagated by Western historians.

Many source on the internet, mostly of African sources, have it that Leo Africanus was the one who gave Africa her name or that the word, Africa was derived from Africanus. But there is no iota of truth in it. As baseless ass Adam laying the foundation of humanity on earth is the same way the claim that Africa was derived from Africanus is so irreparably empty and vacuous.

One thing we will learn from this work is that the name Friday had been there before the days of Africanus. Again, that it was Africanus who derived his name from the already existing Africa. The deepest truth was that Africa was not circumscribed this. The reason is very simple. All the nations in Africa; call it Igbo, Yoruba, Benin, Dogon Timbuktu Egypt etc. All existed as entities on their own separate purpose bearing their name.  The name, Africa, as the amalgam of these large population of Black nationals had been there before Leo was born.

Born in 1494 to the family of

Muhammad al-Wazzan, a weighmaster from Granada, Spain. The family, originally from Granada, moved to Fez, Morocco, after the city fell to Christian forces. His original name was Al-Hassan. During the period the family was in Morocco, he gave out his tim writing about Africa. 

In 1518, he was  captured by Christian pirates and brought to Pope Leon X. He was finally converted to Christianity under the watch of the Pope who did not hastate to baptize him. In doing this, he was given additional name. The Pope named him after himself by calling "Giovanni Leone", Leo. To completely raise his Islamic identity, Pope Leo called him, Leo Africanus, considering his passion for African worldview.

The word, "Afrika" was originally derived from the ancient Egyptian words, Af-rui-ka. According to Ivan Van Setima, the term was used by the, ancient Egypt to designate the place of beginning; refering to the place in the inner Africa where the ancestors of the ruling class originated. The ancestors of the Egyptian rilling class originated from Nsukka, while Egypt was founded by the Area cosmographers led by Lord Tera Natar. Nations and people that Tracee their origin to the ancient land known as "Obo Area (the abode of Afra) have always tried to identify with the name. We have, for instance places like Afa,  Afra, and Afara.

When the Portuguese advanced into the inner Africa, they identified the people living around that original home as the Biafrans, for the remnants referred to themselves as Biafrans. It should be noted clearly that the term, Africa", was not sourced beyond the Africa
