Murdered by Her Father for Refusing to Divorce a Christian Husband

A father killed his daughter and called it religion. But which kind of god will command that? Can you do that as a father?

That was what Rana’s father did to her. Rana was married to her cousin, Sultan Al-Sawahreh. Together, they had two young daughters. But their marriage became a source of intense family conflict after Sultan’s life took a dramatic turn.

Sultan had once travelled to Iraq to fight American forces. When he returned to Jordan, he began asking difficult questions about his faith. Eventually, he left Islam and converted to Christianity.

In his community, that decision was not treated as a private matter of conscience. It was seen as a shameful betrayal of the family. When Sultan’s conversion became known, Rana’s family demanded that she leave him. Under traditional expectations, a Muslim woman could not remain married to a man who had left the faith.

But Rana refused. She would not abandon her husband. She would not walk away from the father of her children.

According to Sultan, Rana later became a Christian as well, and the couple began planning to leave Jordan with their daughters so they could live without fear.

On 28 August 2008, Sultan was away. That was when Rana’s father found her. What began as a confrontation over her refusal to leave her husband became a savage attack. Her father stabbed her five or six times in the abdomen and chest, then struck her head with a stone. After the killing, he washed his hands and went to the market, where he was later arrested.

Rana died days before her 21st birthday. Think about that. A father looked at his own daughter, the woman he had watched grow up and the mother of his grandchildren, and decided that her choice to remain with her husband was worth more than her life.

Two little girls would grow up without their mother. A husband lost his wife. A young woman lost her future, not because she had committed a violent crime, but because she chose to stand by the man she loved.

Some people call cases like this “honour killings.” But there is nothing honourable about killing a daughter, a wife, or a mother because of religion. It is actually satanic.

But the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:13, “If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.”

Only someone controlled by a demon can have the kind of mind that man had. The Bible says in Romans 13:9 (KJV), “Thou shalt not kill.” In short, as believers in Christ, the Bible says we should not hate our neighbours because hatred is equivalent to murder.

So, which god would ask you to kill anyone who refuses to serve him, if not the devil? A god who demands the blood of a daughter for choosing her husband is not the God of love revealed in Jesus Christ. The Bible says God is love, and every believer should be love personified.

Now, can we say there is love in Islam?

These things are being shared so that Muslims who want to know the truth and be free can embrace the love of Christ now.

This is also shared so that Christians who are confused will make a final decision to go deeper in Christ. The only safe place in this world now is INSIDE CHRIST.
