Vice President Mike Pence was publicly vaccinated for coronavirus in an effort to instill confidence in the vaccine’s safety for the American people.

Pence received the first of two doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Friday alongside Second Lady Karen Pence and Surgeon General Jerome Adams.

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield also attended the televised event.

After the injection was administered, Pence reportedly told the doctors, “I didn’t feel a thing.” The Vice President encouraged Americans to follow in his footsteps and receive the treatment.

Pence stated, “hope is on its way.” He also urged every American to do their part, putting their friends and family first by following safety guidelines.

“Karen and I wanted to step forward and take this vaccine to assure the American people that while we cut red tape, we cut no corners,” said the Vice President. He’s now the highest ranking U.S. official to receive the vaccine since distribution begun across the country.

Pence noted that it was truly an inspiring day and went on to thank those who serve on the coronavirus task force, CDC, HHS and FEMA.
