President Donald Trump denied reports that he was planning on removing the White House Press Briefing Room and restoring the 1930s swimming pool that lies directly beneath it.

In a Saturday Truth Social post, the president adamantly rejected the idea, though he did not rule out moving “Fake News” to another location.

“There is a Fake News report out there that I am going to remove the White House Press Room and bring back the old Swimming Pool, which lies directly underneath,” Trump stated.

“Although I may move the Fake News to a less obnoxious location, the old swimming pool will never be brought back. I NEVER even thought to do such a stupid thing!” he clarified.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that Trump had suggested moving reporters out of the press room and bringing back the pool.

The James S. Brady Press Briefing Room is located in the West Wing of the White House and was constructed on top of an indoor swimming pool built in 1933 under the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

President Richard Nixon had the pool covered nearly 40 years later to serve as the press briefing room. In 2000, it was renamed after White House Press Secretary James Brady, who was shot and seriously injured during the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.
