Since Banditry Started Over 10yrs Ago, We Haven't Heard Of Bandits Being Charged To Court -Bolanta

Former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, has voiced serious concern over the unrelenting insecurity in Nigeria’s North West, attributing the crisis to the absence of legal consequences for perpetrators of violence. He noted that despite over ten years of banditry and killings, there has been no record of any bandits being prosecuted or sentenced, which has allowed impunity to flourish.

According to an interview published by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Bolanta, who also served as Commissioner of Police in Oyo, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Imo states, emphasized that the failure to hold criminals accountable has emboldened them to continue their activities without fear of punishment.

He stressed that the ongoing violence cannot be curbed unless there is a coordinated and strategic response from all arms of government. According to him, the military, police, state governments, and the judiciary must work together to implement comprehensive reforms in security operations across the region.

Bolanta’s remarks reflect growing public frustration over the government’s handling of insecurity, especially in areas plagued by banditry and kidnappings.

His words, "Since this crisis started over a decade ago, we have not heard of bandits being charged to court or sentenced. There is no consequence. People kill and go free. Without consequence, crime continues."
