Alaska: Dem Senate candidate ‘sustained minor injuries’ in car crash,

Alaska Democrat Senate candidate Mary Peltola is rescheduling campaign events after suffering “minor injuries” in a car crash just over a week out from elections, according to her campaign.

Peltola (D-Alaska), who previously served as Alaska’s lone United States representative, was set to kick off her “Alaska Always Tour” ahead of the midterms. However, on Saturday night, a driver struck the vehicle Peltola and her family were traveling in, per a Sunday campaign statement.

The incident, which caused minor injuries requiring medical attention, led to upcoming campaign events needing to be rescheduled, according to the candidate’s campaign manager, Cheryl Bruce.

“Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits,” Bruce said in a statement. “Unfortunately, per the advice of medical professionals, Mary’s upcoming events in Fairbanks and Bethel will be rescheduled for later in the week as she takes time to recover.”

“Mary is disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour, and she is eager to get back on the campaign trail to speak directly with Alaskans about her plan to take on the rigged system and lower costs for working families,” Bruce continued.

The events scheduled on Sunday and Monday will be rescheduled in the coming days, though the other events for her tour are set to continue as planned, per her campaign.

The Alaska Senate race boasts a matchup between the two front runners, incumbent Senator Dan S. Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Peltola, with the ballot also featuring candidates Gerald Heikes (R-Alaska), as well as Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. (R-Alaska), who will reportedly will not have a party affiliation on the ballot.

Dan J. Sullivan’s inclusion on the ballot has garnered criticism from Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who has accused Democrats of finding a candidate with the same name as the incumbent and entering him in the race to purposefully confuse voters, which the candidate has denied
