The US Senate voted to confirm President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Waltz, as US ambassador to the United Nations on Friday, just in time for next week's UN General Assembly.

The tally was 47 to 43 in the 100-member chamber, with several senators missing the vote.

The nomination of Michael Waltz for the UN Ambassador was quite urgent to president Trump. The idea stemmed from Waltz's own mistake by aiding the leaking of the classified information against the terrorist group in Yemen.

Although he accepted responsibility for the leaked information, it cost him his earlier appointment . To still keep him within the Trump administration, the president had to think fast and came up with the position of a UN Ambassador.
