US President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his decision to target Hamas inside Qatar wasn't wise, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing senior administration officials.

Trump made the comments during what the Journal described as a heated phone call on Tuesday after the attack.

According to the newspaper, Netanyahu responded that he had a brief window to launch the strikes and took the opportunity. A second call between the men later on Tuesday was cordial, with Trump asking Netanyahu if the attack had proven successful, the Journal reported.

The report also came after an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday that the two spoke twice after the drone strike, stating that their "conversations were good."

Despite this, Trump stated that the decision to strike in Qatar was Netanyahu's decision alone, adding that the decision "does not advance Israel or America's goals."

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday said he also spoke to Trump on a phone call and shared concerns about the situation in the Middle East in the aftermath of Israeli strikes in Qatar.

The two leaders also spoke about developments in Russia's "war of aggression against Ukraine," particularly following Russian drone incursions into Poland, Macron said in an X/Twitter post.

"Close cooperation between Europeans and Americans is crucial on each of these fronts," Macron said
