US forces attacked an Iranian vessel in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday that was attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

The Iranian-flagged oil tanker attempted to bypass the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz when it was struck by 20 mm cannon fire from a helicopter launched by the US Navy.

This comes as the US and Iran are in talks to lift the blockade and potentially end the ongoing conflict.

This is a developing story.
