DOJ Charges 48 Noncitizens for Election-related Crimes

The Department of Justice (DOJ) unveiled charges involving 48 noncitizens for election-related crimes, including voting in elections in 2020 to 2026.
In a Monday press release, the department announced the charges against the individuals for purportedly registering to vote, participating in elections or making false statements in a naturalization application.
“Today, the Justice Department announced charges involving 48 aliens in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, and Nevada in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes,” the department stated.
“The cases include voting by aliens in federal elections and false claims of U.S. citizenship to register to vote or to vote,” the DOJ continued.
The cases were spread across Pennsylvania, California – which accounted for more than half of the cases – Florida, New York and Nevada.
The individuals ranged in age from 21 years old to 80 years old and their nationalities included Cuban, Polish, Israeli, Kenyan, Russian, Dutch, Greek, Belizean, Indian, Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Mexican, Cambodian, Honduran, Pakistani, Canadian, Filipino, Georgian, Myanmar, Tongan, Ecuadoran, Brazilian, German, Irish, Guyanese, and Jamaican.
Muhammad Khan, 50, a Pakistani national, is alleged to have submitted a provisional ballot in 2020 and to have lied in his naturalization paperwork five years later, according to the DOJ.
Polish national Artur Kopacz, 50, was charged by information with two counts of voting by an alien, allegedly having voted in the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
Belizean national Omar Alexander Muñoz, 72, is alleged to have registered to vote in 2019, while claiming he was a U.S. citizen. He purportedly voted in U.S. elections in 2020, 2022 and 2024. The DOJ also alleged that he lied in his naturalization application, falsely stating under oath that he had never claimed to be a U.S. citizen.
