King Charles to Visit Trump on the US-Iran War

U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hold a press conference in Aylesbury, England, on September 18, 2025.

President Donald Trump has insisted that his current strained relationship with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will not overshadow King Charles’s state visit later this month, describing the monarch as a “great gentleman” during an interview with Sky News.

Charles will make his first visit to the US as monarch alongside Queen Camilla later this month, in a trip which will see them visit Washington DC, New York and Virginia and undertake engagements to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Asked whether the current strained relationship between Trump and Starmer could overshadow the royal visit, Trump insisted it would “not at all.”

Some context: Relations between Trump and Starmer have been strained of late, reflecting broader tension between the Trump administration and NATO as member states refused to engage directly with the US-Israeli war with Iran, prompting Trump to lash out at the alliance.
