President Donald Trump took to social media to demand an apology from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for his “unpatriotic” statements about U.S. immigration agencies.

“Wow! Cryin’ Chuck Schumer just said, for the whole World to hear, that “NOBODY RESPECTS BORDER PATROL OR ICE.” That is one of the most egregious, incorrect, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements I have EVER heard from a “professional” politician. HE MUST IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZE TO THESE GREAT PATRIOTS, AND I MEAN NOW!” the president posted to Truth Social on Thursday.

Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) comments were made on the Senate floor as Republicans sought to pass a budget plan that would fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol amidst the ongoing partial government shutdown and funding battle over the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Schumer remarked that the GOP was “adding $140 billion dollars … to two groups, Border Patrol and ICE, that nobody respects in this country.”

The $70 billion non-binding budget resolution passed the Senate early Thursday morning and is headed to the House, setting the stage for ICE and Border Patrol to be funded for the next three years.
